What is Empire Stock Investor?

Empire Stock Investor is the flagship newsletter service of Empire Financial Research – a publisher that was launched in 2019 by Whitney Tilson.

Empire Stock Investor

Although Empire Financial Research is still relatively young, it is run by people who have years of experience as investors and traders. It is also a sister company to InvestorPlace, a publisher that also shares independent investment advice (it has been around for over four decades).

Empire Stock Investor was launched to share investment recommendations with retail investors regularly (typically every month).

It is built on an investment strategy that focuses on large-cap US-based stocks that have a decent chance of earning a massive return in the long-term. The editors chose that approach because such companies offer stability.

However, sometimes it delves into value stocks – high-quality companies with good fundamentals that are trading cheaply. These growth stocks are known to have massive upside potential.

Who is behind Empire Stock Investor?

Empire Stock Investor is run by Whitney Tilson (see my TaaS review) and Enrique Abeyta, who both publish investment advisory services via Empire Financial Research.

Between them, they have more than 50 years of experience on Wall Street.

Whitney Tilson

Whitney Tilson is the CEO and founder of Empire Financial Research. He spent close to 20 years on Wall Street where he worked as a hedge fund manager.

He started a fund called Kase Capital Management, which grew from $1 million in assets under management, peaking at $200 million.

He has built his career around making bold predictions about the market and tailoring his moves to those predictions. CNBC even once called him “The Prophet” for that trait.

He edits the Empire Investment Report in addition to Empire Stock Investor.

Enrique Abeyta

Enrique graduated from the Wharton School of Business and went on to spend 20 years on Wall Street. He started and ran two long/short hedge funds.

He helped start Stadia Capital and was its portfolio manager. He was in charge of a six-person team and oversaw more than 750 million dollars in assets. That number grew to more than 1.7 billion dollars.

He founded a second hedge fund called 360 Global Capital in 2007. He was in charge of a nine-person team. At its peak, the fund had $260 million in its books.

His other noteworthy achievements were beating the S&P 500 for ten years straight and generating positive returns during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis.

How does Empire Stock Investor work?

If you sign up for the newsletter, you should expect to receive large-cap stock recommendations, although Enrique and Whitney don’t shy away from the occasional value stock.

All recommendations encourage you to go long (no short-selling) and their typical holding period is three to five years.

They recommend that you invest at least $1,000 in each recommendation they send you.

When you subscribe to the Empire Stock Investor newsletter, you will receive:

  • An issue of the newsletter sent to you every first Wednesday of the month. The newsletter usually has new investment ideas and updates to The Perfect Portfolio.
  • Access to the Perfect Portfolio
  • Access to the entire library of all the previous special reports sent to subscribers of the Empire Stock Investor.
  • A subscription to Whitney’s daily email service, the Empire Financial Daily.

Subscription Fee

One year of the Empire Stock Investor costs $49 (down from the usual $199).

Guarantee

There is a 30-day money-back guarantee that allows you to sample the service for one month risk-free.

Is Empire Stock Investor legit?

I think Empire Stock Investor is legit for two reasons.

First, it is published by Empire Financial Research, which I have reviewed here before and given a clean bill of health. I gave it the all-clear because it publishes investment advice that is derived from intensive research and analysis. By association, I think the Empire Stock Investor is legit because it is the flagship service of the publisher.

Second, it is run by two experienced traders and former hedge fund managers. Enrique Abeyta and Whitney Tilson have both been quite successful as traders and money managers. Given that they are competent, it makes sense that they offer genuine advice.

Note that although their recommendations are genuine, that is not a guarantee that the advice is 100% going to work.

My Final Word on Empire Stock Investor

If you are to subscribe to this newsletter, you should come to terms with the fact that most of the recommendations are large-cap stocks. However, the editors do not pass up an opportunity to invest in a value stock if it presents itself.

They also recommend that you hold your position for two to three years. I know that that can be tough if you are interested in short-term returns, but that is generally what you will be signing up for. It makes sense that they prefer going long-term because it allows the investments to grow.

To sum everything up, this service is ideal if you are patient enough to wait two to three years to earn returns from your investments.

Don’t leave yet…
